Home Page Message from the President Hi Everyone, Welcome to the Greater Phoenix Area Chapter 1 of the Arizona Nurses Association. On behalf of your Board of Directors, we hope you find this web site informative and useful. If you have any questions about information contained within this site, please feel free to contact any Board member. We have many exciting events coming up this year and hope to meet your needs. First, I'd like to let you know that your Board of Directors works diligently to plan events, agendas, and information that will be helpful to you in your careers. In order to do that, the Board has established three strategic goals for 2008-2009: 1. Explore options to partner with other professional nursing and community organizations 2. Develop a long-term fundraising project 3. Create more family-friendly member events We have already started to work on these three strategies. First, we will be partnering with the Nu Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau to present our annual Fall Event, which will be held on Thursday, November 13 at 6:00PM the Arizona Club. Poster presentations are being accepted for this event, which will offer an interactive panel discussion on "Workplace Civility". CEs will be offered at this event. We hope you can join us. Second, the Board is developing a unique and interesting long-term fundraising event that we hope to unveil at the Fall Event. Stay tuned for the exciting details of this project. Third, we are looking at ways to promote GPAC activities without infringing on your family time. We will be hosting informal opportunities to increase activity, such as periodic nature walks. We are exploring options to participate with local senior community programs that will enhance physical activity as well. We are also exploring the possibility of hosting the Spring Event at a family-friendly location next April. Look for further details of these activities to come. We will continue to offer familiar events as well, such as coffee meetings in October, February, and June. We are also offering our annual Scholarship Program, with the recipients to be announced at the annual Fall Event. We will also be keeping you updated on legislative issues as they arise. Along those lines, I would like to personally encourage each and every one of you to vote in our upcoming Presidential election this year. We hope our agenda will meet your needs. If you have any suggestions or would like to become more involved in planning any events or projects, please feel free to contact any Board member. You are welcome to attend our monthly Board meetings - just let us know when. Our goal is to continue to work to "promote the professional development of nurses, advance the practice of nursing, and provide opportunities for establishing collegial relationships." See you at the polls! Sandy Thompson, RN, MS - President, Greater Phoenix Area Chapter 1 of the Arizona Nurses Association
